“‘We don’t serve non-veg because it’s a short flight’ – stewardess on a Vistara flight today. I don’t see the connection between duration and non-veg. Were they planning to run tandoor on the plane if it was a long flight? Vistara herself half -Should say serviced airline!” X User Soumitra wrote.

Vistara shared a certified reply and requested that she contact the airline via DM. In a few tweets below, they also shared the reason behind their decision.

“Hi Soumitra, We care a lot about your preferences and inflight food choices. While we make continuous improvements, the mentioned flight was a shorter flight with slightly shorter flight time. As a procedure, we currently serve vegetarian meals in your booked cabin.” Wrote the airline.

“Services have been set up, keeping in mind that all customers should be served and the crew should complete the required procedures well within time. We appreciate your understanding and hope to have you back soon. Thank you,” they added.

Here’s how X users reacted to Flyer’s tweet:

“I think that saves a lot of time. They don’t have to ask each person what they prefer – ‘veg or non-veg?’ Then, some ask what each of them have for breakfast/meal before deciding. It’s just time saving and practical and everyone can get a bite on a short flight,” user X posted. On this Soumitra posted, “I really don’t buy it”.

Another person added, “Honestly, it’s quite easy to tell if someone applies their mind. With no option, it’s easy to serve too many passengers in a short period of time—just serve the available option, rather than the interaction.” To do, figure out the choice, then serve, etc”.

“This happened to me once on a Mumbai-New Delhi Air India flight. They gave everyone idli sambar by default and when I asked for non-veg they gave the same reason. Finally, they gave me an omelet sausage meal. For that ‘Found it’,” expressed a third.

“Welcome to the 21st century flying experience!’ My 10-hour Lufthansa flight from Bangalore to Frankfurt served only veggie meals. Lufthansa must have assumed that everyone flying out of India is a vegetarian! And hospital food looks delicious in comparison!” wrote the fourth.
