The Bachelor Season 28, Episode 4 Recap

spoiler ALERT! This post contains details from Monday’s episode the Bachelor.

it’s night two Single event, and to say the least, Joey is meeting women in Malta after a bumpy first few weeks in Los Angeles.

The confrontation at the pool party has left everyone upset and, while they all claim they want to move on, it seems like that’s all anyone can talk about. Maybe that’s why Joey gives Maria and Sydney a two-on-one chance to clear up the situation. But more on that later.

First, Lexi gets a one-on-one date with Joey. They spend the day wandering around Malta, eating lots of new foods, dancing and even touring the city from a hilltop. They also take some painting to a church, and Lexi is reminded of her late grandfather, who was an artist. She says during the confessional that she is looking forward to going deeper in her conversation with Joey over dinner. Now is usually the time when women start wanting a deeper relationship with the leading man, as roses are becoming more rare.

During dinner, Lexi tells Joey that she was previously diagnosed with endometriosis, and was told she would never be able to have children of her own. She also says that this is why her last relationship ended. Joey admits that it’s not something he’s ever encountered in a relationship before, but there are many ways to create a family, and that doesn’t discourage him from pursuing their relationship.

Lexi gets a rose.

Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Sydney is still angry that Joey kept Maria to herself. She says she can’t concentrate on anything else because her mind is “completely filled” with the fact that Maria is still there. It seems like Maria isn’t really worried about Sydney and just wants to move on, but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen.

The group date goes to Jen, Daisy, Edwina, Caitlin, Allison, Rachel, Autumn, Kelsey T., Jess, Medina, Lee, and Kelsey A. This also confirms that Sydney and Maria are going head to head. Oh.

The group meets Joey at Fort Manoel, where they filmed some scenes game of Thrones. Joey says he’s thrilled to be standing where Ned Stark was beheaded (spoilers, Joey!). The women are told that they will be taking part in a series of challenges to win some extra time with Joey.

The first is to get out. Then, they are tasked with personally staring into Joey’s eyes to “bare his soul”. This happens in front of everyone and, of course, it is very awkward. This also leads to many make out sessions. This is again in front of everyone. Extremely uncomfortable testifying.

The last challenge has each woman and Joey standing in a circle around some hanging sausages. As the wheel of sausages rotates, they have to catch one using only their mouth. There is a lot of sarcasm on your face on this. Apart from this, all the women get quite irritated by having huge amount of sausage on their face. Autumn appears to be the only one to succeed, and she ends up winning extra time with Joey, though it’s unclear how much time she actually gets to spend alone with him, as it’s been mentioned in all episodes. The pair are walking a few feet apart and staring at the sunset together. In the next scene, all the women in the group get together again for a cocktail party.

There’s not much to report from this part of the group date, except that all the conversations are going really well. Some of the women tell Joey that they are “falling in love with him”, but there are no other big moments. shocking! Plus, fresh! Kelsey T. gets the group date rose.

However, this peace won’t last long, as it’s time for Sydney and Maria to finally clear the air in this two-on-one. The boat ride to meet Joey is very awkward, and things get even weirder when they see that they are going on a trip with him even and smaller Boat to explore some caves around Malta. Mariah is trying to keep things light, but that’s not happening for Sydney.

After the boat ride, Joey knows he can no longer escape. He first pulls Sidney aside to ask his side of the story. She says that when he left the pool party, Mariah “attacked” him and told Lee to “shut the fuck up.” She claims that Maria is the common denominator for every issue in the house, and ultimately, Sydney feels that she is just looking out for Joey’s best interests by causing all this drama with Maria.

Well, Maria says it’s all lies. She wanted to leave the drama in LA, and doesn’t understand why Sydney can’t move on. He also doesn’t like being accused of being a bad person.

By dinner time, virtually nothing has been resolved. However, Joey has already made it clear (in front of the cameras, at least) that he has a very strong relationship with Mariah, so it seems like that’s where it’s headed. He doesn’t waste much time though as he asks both of them to consider whether they feel they have a strong enough connection with him to make it to the end. Sydney says yes, but Maria says she doesn’t know anymore because she feels he questioned her character too much for her liking. But, if he wants to try, he’s willing to try.

No surprises here, but Joey gives the rose to Maria. He seems to appreciate her honest answer, and he says even he’s unsure about her at this point, but he wants to give them a chance to get back on the right foot.

Finally, it’s time for the cocktail party before the rose ceremony. Everyone swears that they just want to move on, but it very quickly becomes clear that that’s still not the case.

During the party, Lee becomes angry at Medina for being too nice to Maria, since Sydney is supposed to be Medina’s “best friend in the house”. Lee feels this is disingenuous, especially because the drama began with Sydney defending Medina. Lee confronts Medina, but she is No To be this. She says she doesn’t feel she should treat Maria badly because of her friendship with Sydney, who is no longer there. Lee says their level of friendship is much higher than that, and they agree to disagree.

But Lee decided to take the issue back to Joey. Bad idea, girlfriend. As Lee tells Joey his side of the story, Maria is disappointed when she learns that Lee is only angry at Medina for being nice to her. She says she feels like she can’t win, and insists she wants to go home.

Something tells me Joey won’t let that happen, but we won’t find out tonight! The episode ends here.

Luckily, there isn’t long to wait. Another two-hour episode of the Bachelor Airs Tuesday nights at 8PM ET/PT on ABC.
