From November 2023 to March 2024, the NCB issued eight notices to Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Wankhede. Wankhede had filed a petition in the High Court last week challenging the investigation and the notice issued to him, claiming that he was being targeted and that the inquiry was an “act of retaliation”.
A division bench headed by Justice Revati Mohite Dere on Monday directed the NCB to respond to the petition by April 10.
The court said that till then no punitive action will be taken against Wankhede.
Wankhede’s lawyer Rajiv Chavan told the HC that Singh cannot lead the investigation against Wankhede.
“While investigating these cases, including the case involving Sushant Singh Rajput, Wankhede, who was then the zonal director of the western region of the agency, used to take clearance from Singh, who was his senior officer. Therefore, Singh is no longer leading this investigation. Can,” Chavan claimed.
“Whatever action Wankhede took in both the cases was taken after the approval of Singh and other senior officials,” he said.
NCB lawyer Manisha Jagtap said Wankhede cannot decide which officer will investigate against him.

Wankhede also claimed in his petition that NCB cannot initiate such inquiries on the basis of anonymous complaints.
The petition further states that the complaint against Wankhede in the drugs case registered after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput has been allegedly submitted by actress Sapna Pabbi, who is actually named as a wanted accused in the chargesheet filed in the case. Has been shown.
