Jason Kelce has made an impact on Philadelphia and created a legacy in the city — something he hopes his daughters understand.

“I hope they ultimately understand that their father had such an impact on Philadelphia in the way that he understood the city so much that he wanted to live there and raise a family there,” she said. “It is enough that he loves the people he has worked with and will continue to love them. And they did donations and things like that in the city, they gave their blood, sweat and tears to the city, and it was just out of love and commitment, and I hope they see that.

“I think at the end of the day it’s not just about him remembering that he played football. He takes with him everything he has learned from football. “People come up to them and want to take pictures.”

Jason Kelce announced his retirement during an emotional speech earlier this year.

“To be in this position and have this opportunity has been humbling, something I’ve never taken lightly,” Kelce said during the 2023 season. “Obviously, you cherish every minute of it. I have incredible passion for this game, this organization, this city. This is very special to me.”

When speaking on how he got his start he recalled, “Howard took a chance on me. He liked me and saw my qualities. Everyone was talking about me being ‘undersized’, but Howard saw my strengths and he took advantage of them. It was a development that started with him and then when Stout (Jeff Stoutland, Eagles offensive line coach since 2013) came here, it went to a new level again and again.

He further added, “What would I have known if I had known earlier in terms of technique and perfecting the little things, man… It’s something where you just keep working on your craft, and everything around you- There are people who believe in you and if you aspire to be the best, you love it.

“I’ve always loved it.”

Following their announcement, Eagles President and CEO Jeffrey Lurie praised the Eagles center highly:

“It is difficult to put into words how much Jason Kelce means to this organization, the city of Philadelphia and our fans. He gave all of us his all for 13 years, and he did it in a way that was really authentic. Jason was an incredible football player; Future Hall of Famer who would have been successful anywhere. But has there ever been a more perfect marriage between a player, a city and a team?

From being a walk-on linebacker at Cincinnati to being an undersized sixth-round pick in 2011, his grit and determination is unmatched. His intelligence and versatility, from starting out as a rookie center in the lockout season to thriving under multiple coaches and offensive schemes, set him apart from others at his position. The genuine love and care he showed to his coaches, teammates and staff endeared him to everyone he worked with. A city fell in love with the passion and intensity he displayed in everything he did on and off the field.
