Unique: Monarch Media, 11x Primetime Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Point Gray Pictures, Lylas Pictures and Giant Ant Films are teaming up to bring Sarah Levitt’s graphic novel. Tangles: A Story About Alzheimer’s, My Mom, and Meto the big screen as a feature-length animated film.

Along with Louis-Dreyfus, the cast includes Abbie Jacobson, Bryan Cranston, Samira Wiley, Beanie Feldstein, Seth Rogen, Wanda Sykes, Bowen Yang, Pamela Adlon and Sarah Silverman.

In entanglements, When Alzheimer’s disease begins to sap her mother’s vibrant personality, a stubborn young woman is forced to return to her strange family in the conservative small town she recently fled to care for her. She soon realizes that she must accept the cruel and distorting reality of the disease – and the imperfect beauty of her family – in order to be the daughter they need.

Levitt adapted his novel for the film alongside Trevor Rainey and Leah Nelson.

Giant Ant co-founder Leah Nelson is directing. Patel, Rogen and Miller Rogen are longtime Alzheimer’s activists who have been affected by the disease in very personal ways. Patel’s late father was diagnosed with the disease in 2003, inspiring him to become one of the country’s leading fundraisers for brain science research. He was awarded the Alzheimer’s Foundation’s Jerome H. Stone Philanthropy Award, one of the organization’s highest honors.

Miller Rosen lost his grandmother, grandfather and mother to the disease. After her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 55, Miller Rosen and her husband founded Hilarity for Charity (HFC), a national nonprofit organization that supports families affected by Alzheimer’s disease. cares for, and inspires the next generation of Alzheimer’s advocates. and leads a nationwide brain health education effort for young people. To date, HFC has raised $23 million to support family caregivers, brain health education and prevention research. The organization has provided over 427K hours of home care relief to unpaid, family caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s or related dementia.
