Team,

We wanted to share below the note that Jonathan Greenberger sent to his team a while back.

For more than a decade, Jonathan has been a member of our organization, most recently serving as DC bureau chief, where he directed our coverage of some of the most consequential events in our country’s recent history. Has played an important role in doing so. He has been a great asset to our powerful political team and will be greatly missed. We thank him for his contributions and look forward to giving him a toast in person in DC next week to wish him a fond farewell.

In the interim, Katie Den Das will serve as acting DC Bureau Chief as we search for Jonathan’s permanent replacement. Our thanks to him and the entire DC team for their support and commitment during this transition.

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact one of us. In the meantime, please join us in thanking Jonathan and wishing him well in his new endeavors.

Best wishes,

Debra and Kim

Note from Jonathan Greenberger

DC team,

I write to share some of my news.

For just 10 years, I have had the extraordinary privilege of leading this incredible team of journalists. In that decade, we have been entrusted with the great responsibility of documenting a changing America and a changing world. Each day, you have accomplished that mission with compassion, determination, and the utmost care. Through every challenge, you have shown an unwavering commitment to our audiences and to each other. I am so proud of each of you – so proud of your accomplishments, of your growth, and of who you are as a person. And my gratitude for your devotion to this great institution is infinite.

It was exactly 20 years ago when I first came into this building as an intern. I spent that summer eavesdropping on Nightline’s editorial meetings and watching Ted Koppel and other giants of our industry debate and analyze news stories. I was immediately attracted to ABC, attracted to this business. That summer, it was clear how capable the journalists living here were; Over time, I realized that the defining characteristic of this team is actually the ability People Here. For every journalistic success we have had over the past two decades, it will be our moments of friendship and camaraderie that I will cherish most.

Although I am incredibly pleased to call each of you my colleague and friend, I have decided to step away from ABC News at the end of this month. This is the right time for me to move on to a new professional challenge. Handing over the reins now, with ample time before the election, will allow Debra, Kim and their team to immediately begin planning for the next chapter of this great bureau. I am confident that under his leadership this bureau and ABC News will continue to shine. As for my own next chapter, I’ll be right here in Washington, and although we’ll become competitors – in a way – I’ll always be cheering you on.

At a time when so many of our country’s institutions are under attack, you – together – represent an institution in which I believe deeply. Keep fighting for the truth, keep fighting for your audiences, and keep fighting for each other.

With deep gratitude and respect,

jonathan
