I think this is what happened: King Charles called Prince Harry to tell him in person about his cancer diagnosis, and Harry immediately told his father that he wanted to meet him in person. Charles immediately ordered arrangements – including a police escort from Heathrow to Clarence House – and agreed to meet Harry alone, albeit briefly. They had a brief meeting last Tuesday, when Charles jetted off to Sandringham with Camilla, while Harry stayed the night in a hotel, and presumably met with his lawyer David Sherborne in person (since we now know That Harry settled his lawsuit against the Mirror last week). That was all that was on Harry’s agenda – a face-to-face with Charles and the lawyer. During the entire 48-hour period during Harry’s visit, Prince William was losing his mind, calling every reporter and screaming about how much he hated Harry and how Harry should not have come and How could he, William, never get along with Harry or forgive him.
All this to say, there is a sense of some journalists and commentators who are following William’s lead, but also rolling their eyes at his pettiness, laziness and general rampant anger. Even old-fashioned commentators will dutifully report (for the millionth time) that William “refuses” to see Harry and that William “will never forgive his brother”, and then in the same breath, Those commentators are like…yeah, but eventually William has to suck it up. Speaking, Robert Jobson had some comments:
A royal expert has claimed that Prince William was never going to meet Prince Harry after years of attacks by the duke. Writer and broadcaster Robert Jobson exclusively tells The Sun’s royal editor Matt Wilkinson how William can’t forgive his brother. Robert believes William had no interest in meeting Harry after the Duke bombed the prince and princess on Oprah, Netflix and in his autobiography Spare.
He said: “It’s a clear message there: ‘You will certainly not be forgiven and you have certainly caused a lot of damage.’ The fact that his brother didn’t even bother to acknowledge him – they were so close and he didn’t even blink an eyelid. There was no way that was happening.”
Jobson now believes that Harry and William need to “grow up” and take care of their father. He said: “We just want Charles to stay healthy. Focus on his health, maybe do some painting, get people off his case. People keep coming and asking him questions, putting things in his plate. Which is why it would probably be quite nice if William and Harry weren’t making the later stages of her life as miserable as they said they were. They are no longer boys, they are both men. It’s time to grow up.”
Jobson said: “Harry is gone. He has made his bed, he will lie down in it – that’s all. But that could have been what William did when they were out and about after the Queen’s death. There was an armistice. They don’t need to do that, they don’t need to be so graphic. I think Kate said at the time that it was the hardest thing she had ever done. The two brothers have to settle their differences, say they will agree to disagree. Let’s agree not to talk about each other anymore and try to build a relationship. And it is the same with the king. After all, they are men, not boys.”
Well, Harry put aside his differences and his security concerns to meet his father in person and dear old dad couldn’t even spare a full hour. Harry was universally the bigger man, and showed more maturity than his brother and father. That being said, I believe Charles and Harry are ready to reconcile with each other in some form or another and Harry worships his father no matter what, just like me. Sure Charles “appreciated” that Harry made the effort. That’s what the trip was about – Harry and Charles, and Harry trying and flying 14 hours for only 40 minutes. Harry’s effort draws attention to William’s lack of effort when it comes to dear old dad — William didn’t even see his father in person a week after his cancer diagnosis. William was so busy making a fuss about Harry that he didn’t even look at Charles. Anyway, even the royals know William is lazy, childish, unprepared, and too stupid to strategize or problem-solve with a wet paper bag.
